The Rocky Bluff Trail is one of the many sights to behold that are near our home in the area. It's part of the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
The trail offers a beautiful wildflower hike in the spring, some consider the best in the state. Each April is a Wild Flower sight seeing event. In Summer the coolness of the forest can be greatly appreciated, even on hot days, especially so closer to the bluffs. You can enjoy the trail next to Grassy Creek and listen for birds at the upper canopy. In the fall, the leaves and their changing colors are majestic in the Shawnee National Forest and this trail also this up close and personal. The falls turn into a large column of ice in the winter and with early season rain, the falls become another beautiful sight to see in the spring. This trail has beauty and sights to see and experience all seasons.
The trailhead to the Rocky Bluffs Trail and it's only 3.5 miles (approximately 11 minutes) from our home, so you won't have to travel far to see the sights of that this beautiful trail has to offer throughout the year.
It has a distance of 1.8 miles It's Difficulty is Moderate, as there are some steep inclines and difficult footing.
